Attachment Turns Your iPhone Into A Virtual Wallet

This is definitely one of the cooler ideas I’ve seen recently. This Kickstarter project called Geode is attempting to turn your iPhone and Android device into a virtual wallet. It essentially stores every credit card, gift card, or whatever has a magnetic card strip into your phone that can be used anywhere with card terminals. It’s also claiming to have “biometric” security, which I believe just means using a fingerprint. Which would hopefully eliminate the need to cancel credit cards should the reader be lost or stolen.

These guys aren’t sponsoring us or anything, I just thought it was a sweet idea. With that said, I’m not sure I would trust this with every money spending bridge that I have. Or at least it would take a lot of convincing. With Path and their very public exposure of the misuse of one’s personal information, this thing would need a lot of trust-building for consumers.

So far they’ve gotten almost $48,000 of a $50,000 goal with 38 days left, which probably means that they will easily pass expectations. Anyone out there willing to trust this thing out of the gate? When I think about it, it’s not putting any more trust in this thing than we do our credit card companies… well, all of our credit card companies together. But still…

AppSlappy 115: The 3rd Generation

In an especially slow news week I’ve decided to put in a bit of filler. Ladies and gentlemen the iPad 3 iPad HD new iPad is here, and the incredible crew gives us a full rundown of their impressions. Scott and Eileen immediately pulls the trigger on their pre-orders, and Eric (like normal people) has worry about money so will have to save for it.  As expected, the new iPad pricing scheme is exactly the same as the iPad 2 was but with a new level of cool. First off, the 9.7″ LED-backlit IPS LCD screen has a resolution of 2048×1536. This means that the pixel density is roughly 4x more than the iPad 2 was at 264 ppi.  We’ve got a faster processor with new A5X, a 5 MB camera that can record 1080p video, and a new battery with a 10 WiFi hour life. One thing that didn’t make it, unfortunately for those wanting to hear GLaDOS on their iPad, was Siri.

From the folks that were actually at the event there has been nearly universal praise. Some are even saying that this one of the coolest screens ever. The cases that they are making for how awesome the new iPad is are quite compelling. Personally I haven’t pulled the trigger on this one yet, but I can see it on the horizon.

On March 16th, we shall find out just how awesome this is.

For those of you who weren’t able to catch the announcement (me), check out the stream video from the event.

In other news the official Simpsons game was on the Apple Store for a short period, but was quickly pulled because of developer technical problems. For those who actually got it, they think it’s kind of awesome. Once the issues are resolved by Fox Interactive I’m sure we’ll pick it up.

iPad 3 Prices Said To Be Here

At least according to 9to5mac, the iPad 3 prices are said to be in the same vein as the iPad 2, that is to say they’re exactly the same. There have been plenty of rumors floating around the iPad 3, one of which was that the pricing models could increase about $70, but doesn’t seem to be holding much ground. Another piece of speculation was about the space in each model, and that hasn’t changed either. Still, as tempted as I am for this new iPad, $800 is a lot of money if I wanted to go full out.

iPad… or a new computer… iPad, computer… Huzzah for first-world problems.

Sell your iPad 2, now

Researchers at Gazelle and NextWorth are suggesting that now would be a pretty good time to sell your iPad 2 if you’re planning on upgrading to the iPad 3. They’ve compiled a chart for the average eBay price of the original iPad leading up to the announcement and release of the iPad 2. As one would probably expect, the longer people waited to sell their iPad during the months leading up to the iPad 2 release, the cheaper it became.

Many are speculating for a March announcement and, as a result, many are trying to unload their iPad 2 in lieu of this. So, unless you’re planning handing down your iPad 2 to someone, get it out there now.

Dwarves are welcomed to the Hero Academy

As most of you are probably aware, people around here like Hero Academy. In a bit of good news for the fans, and bad news for our time, Robot Entertainment announced that the Dwarven race will be added in an update on February 22nd, and available for $1.99 as an in-app purchase.

 Here’s some information they’ve listed:

The dwarves hail from distant fortresses of stone, seeking wealth and glory through victory at the Hero Academy. Dwarves are extremely crafty and gain improved bonuses from the playfield’s premium squares. They are masters of area attacks.

PALADIN

(Class: Fighter) – Holy warrior who can heal and revive allies, healing herself in the process.

GUNNER

(Class: Shooter) – Shooter who deals high damage to a nearby enemy. AOE damage at range.

GRENADIER

(Class: Caster) – Lobs molotovs over enemies for AOE damage. Weak melee attack.

ENGINEER

(Class: Support) – Shields a single ally/crystal. Higher bonus from premium squares.

ANNIHILATOR

(Class: Super Unit) – Deals heavy damage with AOE knockback. Direct hits weaken physical defenses.
