For the most part, Apple seems to be on the ball when it comes to securing it’s devices. And according to a report that came out from MacAfee this week, iOS is orders of magnitude safer than Android (the ‘Others’ in the chart here represent malware in Apple’s applications).

There are some very obvious reasons for this, and it’s acknowledged by the report as well. The biggest reason is distribution. Android’s market is, well, free. Any Android developer can throw out pretty much anything they like into the world, and folks will download it. This means that an unscrupulous person could insert malware into an application without much consequence. Apple’s model it notoriously more strict, all applications must go through their vetting process and Apple can pull that application from their store with relative ease. It’s important to note here that both iOS and Android operating systems are Linux/Unix based, and with that comes a measure of security. With either system it is the developer’s responsibility to secure it. If it’s insecure, that is most likely an issue that could have been fixed on the development side and not an inherent problem with operating system itself.
