When it comes to the 50% piracy rate I think their numbers are a bit off. If they are going solely by the ratio of units sold to Open Feint user names on the leader boards I doubt they are taking into consideration accounts with multiple devices/users. For instance, my wife and I use the same iTunes account so any apps that we buy are on both of our iPhones. And we both have our own separate Open Feint user names. Thus leading to there being one legitimate purchase with two users. I’m not saying that this would account for all 50% but I think it would take a considerable chunk out of it.
Tenaciousdave is exactly right. I have the same situation: multiple devices used by multiple family members, but one iTunes account. I’d be surprised if anyone living in the same house pays for multiple copies of apps. Clearly the numbers are grossly inflated. I’m not saying piracy isn’t happening–I’ve seen Installous, so I know that it is–but 50%? Sheer data manipulation.
For the caller looking for a quick way to bring up the camera: jailbreak, install activator. doubletapping the screen can be assigned to do it.
Also, why would people who jailbreak have to justify how they support developers?

facebook checkin – so i’ve purposely hit the check in thing once or twice and you guys were VERY concerned about this feature but i have yet to see any of my friend’s location show up anywhere in facebook. Where is this dangerous data showing up? If i am sharing this data without realizing it please help so i can take the control back. If you are just propagating irrational fear then please check back in on this issue to be part of the solution rather than the problem. Thanks!

To the caller that called in about reverting to an old version of an APP:
- If you have updated the app on the device and NOT sync’d, delete the app on the iDevice and resync with iTunes.
- If you have updated the app on the device and you sync’d, delete the app on the device, open Time Machine (or your equivalent backup) and restore the app file to a
- If you updated the app in iTunes and you haven’t sync’d the device yet, restore the app from backup (Time Machine or your favorite equivalent).
This is a HUGE hole in the App store and I’ve been saying it for awhile. There needs to be a way to restore to ANY PREVIOUSLY RELEASED VERSION OF AN APP, particularly when OS versions can kill an app. There is nothing in place currently to stop a developer from forcing you to have a new device or a new feature in an OS update in the to use their app essentially creating a situation where you can update and kill an app. This is extra frustrating considering this is happening to iPhone 3G users ALREADY, even though they have access to iOS 4 and first gen iPhones are only 3 years old and most still work PERFECTLY FINE.
There also needs to be a method for IGNORING an update. I’m currently sitting happily with a no-Ad version of iMahjong that works great for me. Then they released a “stability fix” update that put ADs EVERYWHERE. I quickly backpedaled with the steps above. I get the developer wants to make money, but I am using a version of the App that happily worked, the developer should have never released a no ad version if they intended to make money on Ad revenue. More importantly DO NOT LIE TO YOUR CUSTOMERS, there’s no excuse for hiding an Ad update by calling it a stability fix. Unfortunately I have to stare at the update badge that is permanently fixed to the AppStore. I also lose the ability to “update all” on both my iTunes account at home and on the Appstore App.
