  1. One thing to think about regarding the droid taking the top of the usage charts.

Since I got myself an iPad I have not used my iPhone for surfing half as much as I would normally… obviously only over Wifi.. so the only time I am using my iPhone to surf now is when I am out and about and cant get to a Wifi spot with my iPad.

    Something to think about?

    Derp!

  2. Hey guys! Just wondering what your guys’s we rule plus+ user names were. Oh and what’s eric’s friend’s name too? (the lady with the yards in front of each house) thanks guys! Love the show!!! :)

  3. You’re giving out bad info on Afghanistan!

First off, the iPhone will NOT work there unless it’s UNLOCKED/Jail Broken. Best advice for a phone is to buy a cheap unlocked quad-band Nokia or something similar. You can buy pre-paid sim cards and fill them with minutes, if you’re lucky enough to be in an area with cell coverage and local policy allows them.

Secondly, the wi-fi coverage all depends on your location. My wife and I tried Skype but it worked horribly and often wouldn’t connect even with a strong signal. Beejive actually proved to be more reliable for chatting in our situation. There’s no absolutes though, it all depends on where you are as there’s no consistency in wifi from base to base or even tent to tent in many cases.

EVERYONE has iPod touches over there, bring a case and take care of it and it will most likely survive. Mine survived just fine. Ziploc bags and Can-O-Air is your friend.

Please correct this info on your next podcast!

  4. In this episode, two people asked about using an old iPhone as an iPod.
There is a way to do this if he already has an iPhone without getting a second contract!
All he has to do is put his SIM chip into the non-active iPhone and plug it in. The computer will think he got a new phone and activate it (because his SIM is valid & active). Then unplug it and turn on “Airplane Mode” in the settings. This removes the phone’s need to talk to the AT&T network to function and is now an iPod with WiFi and a camera. Swap the SIM’s again and everyone is happy as long as Airplane Mode isn’t turned off (as my son has done a couple of times). If it does get turned off and asks to be plugged in, just do the SIM shuffle again.

He should be able to plug the non-contract iPhone into his computer and download all his current apps to the iphone/ipod. I say should because I didn’t risk messing my own phone syncing, I plugged my 4 year old’s iphone/ipod into his mac. If a second computer is logged into the same iTunes store account, they can share apps with each other (search google for specifics on that).

The SIM chip can be removed by using the tool that comes with the phone (or a small paperclip) and inserting it into the hole on the top of the iPhone. A small tray pops out with the chip in it.

    For the Horde!

  5. My We Rule name is: EPRock

Love all the Frogpants studio’s productions and have increased my library so I am stuck at around 300 podcasts to listen to.

Regarding a app to track your bills.
Spend is the application which I use to track my budget.

  6. GRRRR. I’ve noticed this alot more lately and I suspect it’s because he has a lot on his plate, but Scott doesn’t seem to be understanding some of the calls. The guy on the PvZ was asking if there was a way to transfer his save data for the iPhone version of the game from his iPhone to the iPad, the SAME game (remember you can play iPhone games to). Eric seemed to get it with his comment on using server save games, but Scott just kept going and then started rambling. .

A better example would be my frustration as hell for me with Space Miner, I don’t want to start over, but I can not find a way to get my saves from one devices to the next. This is a major shortcoming I’m finding lately in managing data across multiple idevices.

  7. Just wanted to let you know finger physics does have a paid version its 99 cents.

  8. Started using Early Edition and it is awesome. Only one complaint. I had to manually add my RSS feeds. Waiting for google support to make things easier. But the interface is sweet.
